What Veterinarian Saying534This is the highly recommended product by most of the vets. The ingredient - ivermectin in this heartworm preventive is effective in eliminating immature stages of heartworms reducing the risk of the disease. Moreover, under vet's supervision, Heartgard Plus is also used for treatment where the expensive conventional treatment poses higher risk than the treatment. Heartgard Plus is always recommended to given year round without any gaps in order to lower the risk which is usually high during the fall and spring seasons. This strategy also helps in clearing any infection at the early stage. The added benefit of this product comes from the other ingredient - Pyrantel, which is effective in controlling roundworm and hookworm infections. However, it does not treat whipworms, which may cause diarrhea at times in dogs. With Milbemycin Oxime and Afoxolaner, Nexgard Spectra is also a promising product. It treats various internal as well as external parasites. Definitely, the oral chew provides widest protection against various parasites. Nexgard Spectra covers fleas, ticks as well as ear mites and sarcoptic though these are not displayed in the label indications. Many vets also recommend Nexgard Spectra for intestinal worm infections as the product is effective against multiple worms including a species of hookworm that can easily infect humans. We usually recommend Nexgard Spectra to dogs that reside in highly infested flea zone. This protects not only against fleas but also from the risk of flea tapeworm infection, which again is not mentioned by the manufacturer. Though it can be given without food, we recommend it to be given with food to avoid nausea like feeling in dogs.
